Job Summary: The Recreational Therapist will plan and provide group and individual therapeutic services to our residents so that social, physical, emotional, and cognitive functioning is maximized. This position is responsible for assisting the Life Enrichment Manager with planning and executing therapeutic, recreational, and social programs for the residents that contribute to the improvement, maintenance and enhancement of the resident/patient quality of life, taking into account resident preferences, abilities, and challenges. This position provides oversight and supervision of volunteers as needed.
Job Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, or a related field. One year of related experience providing recreation therapy services to older adult population preferred. Candidates must have a current Certification in Recreational Therapy or be working on a certification. Experience completing clinical documentation including comprehensive activities assessment, care plans, and MDS section F preferred. Incumbent should be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form, possess high-quality verbal and written communication ability, and possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be a dynamic team player. Must successfully operate independently without supervision. Must be proficient in the operation of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Publisher, fax, etc. This position is responsible for working every other weekend, select holidays and at least one evening a week. Essential Job Functions: Assists with planning and/or leading individual and group activities in the Health Center and Assisted Living Neighborhood. Develops, promotes, and implements a variety of life enrichment programming for Health Center and Assisted Living residents. Assesses resident's/patient's needs and identifies interventions and goals to help maximize optimal functioning. Completes/monitors assessments, care plans, progress notes and other MDS documentation related to activity pursuit patterns in compliance with Federal, State, and Facility requirements as directed by Life Enrichment Manager. Maintains clinical caseload, current record of all activities including resident participation, events, and feedback. Keeps ongoing attendance records and accurately assesses level of participation of residents during programs and friendly visits in Activity Tracking Binder. Submits monthly totals to Life Enrichment Manager with department timeline. Monitors timeliness of daily announcements, flyers, and ledge notices (as needed) posted throughout the neighborhoods. Maintains professional presence when representing Ingleside at King Farm; exhibits degree of professionalism consistent with standards in performance, behavior, and appearance. Maintains resident confidentiality and privacy at all times according to policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing confidential matters. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with residents, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff. Maintains positive working relationships with management and coworkers; willingly follows directions and requests as appropriate. Demonstrates professional development/skills competency in all activities. Participates in in-service, projects, or committees as assigned. Maintains all certifications necessary for employment. Demonstrates flexibility, open mindedness, and versatility in adjusting to changing environments and requirements as necessary.
